**__Burr Oak__**

Scientific Name: Quercus macrocarpa

Leaf Structure/Shape: 6-12 inches wide, 5-9 lobes separated

__Bark:__ At maturity bark is very thick, deeply ridged, and sometimes corky. This helps the tree resist fire.

Root System:

Fruit: Acorn are larger than other oaks and have a cap that is about half way down. It is conspicuously fringed. Food for wildlife such as: wood ducks, wild turkeys, white tail deer, rabbits, mice, squirrels, and other rodents.

Gambel Oak:

Scientific Name: Quercus gambelii Nutt.
Leaf Structure/Shape: About 5 inches long with three or four rounded, deeply cleft lobes on each side of the central vein. Lobe tips are smooth, leaves are bright green, change color to yellow or reddish during autumn when the leaves fall.
Root System:
Fruit: Acorns that are solitary or in clusters, Cup covering nearly half of its lenght. Acorn is usually yellowish brown when shed in the fall.

Growth Characteristics: Grows 6 to 30 feet tall. Flowers from March to April. Fruits mature in autumn of the first year. Reproduces from seed, root, sprouts, and tillers.

__**Red Oak:**__

Scientific Name: Quercus rubra L.
Leaf Structure/Shape: Bristle-tipped leaves, have 7 to 11 lobes, and turn red in the fall. The leaves alternate, 4 to 8 inches long, dark green in color.
Fruit:Acorn production is highly variable among different trees even in a good seed years. Some trees will always produce more acorns while other trees are poor producers.

Growth Characteristics: 65 to 85 feet tall, grows up to two feet each year for up to ten years. Bloom from April to May.

**__White Oak__**:

Scientific Name: Quercus alba
Leaf Structure/Shape: Leaves are alternate, simple, and obovate or oblong-obovate. Leaves are red to pink to gray in the spring, then in the summer the leaves are dark green to slightly blue green. In the fall the leaves turn brown to deep red to burgundy.
Fruit: Acorn is tan brown, with a bowl like cap. Ripen the first year and fall in September or October.

Bark: Whitish or ashy oak scaly oak
Flower: Reddish, minute, single or paired on short stalks, male staminate flowers are yellow green and in clusters.

__**Austrian Pine:**__

Scientific Name: Pinus nigra
Leaf Structure/Shape: Spiral, simple, two needles 3 to 6 inches long, color dark green.
Fruit: Oval, long, dry, and brown 1 to 3.

Growth Characteristics: Blooms from April to May, very hardy, good for windbreaks, grows to 60' with a spread of 20' to 40'.
Flower: Yellow and nondescript.

__**Pinyon Pine:**__

Scientific Name: Pinus monohylla
Leaf Structure/Shape: Blue green needles throughout the year.
Fruit: Pine nuts are small and brown, can be eaten either raw or toasted. Have a wonderful flavor.

__**Plains Cottonwood:**__

Scientific Name: Populus deltoids occidentalis
Leaf Structure/Shape: 3 to 6 inches in length, long and wide, broad triangles or heart shaped, coarse toothed
Bark: Pale yellow green, thin and smooth when young, and gray and deeply furrowed when old.
Fruit: Female tree produce green capsules and make cotton, Male trees don't make cotton but do make blooms early May and the color is purple especial when wet.
